Block Producers

Block Producers (BPs) are the core infrastructure providers of the Vaulta blockchain. They are responsible for validating transactions, producing blocks, maintaining network performance, and participating in on-chain governance.

Vaulta uses a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism, which means block production and governance are delegated to elected entities—known as Block Producers—by Vaulta token holders.

Key Responsibilities of Block Producers

  • Produce Blocks: BPs take turns generating blocks every 0.5 seconds in a round-robin fashion. There are 21 active BPs at any given time.

  • Validate Transactions: BPs confirm and record transactions into the blockchain, ensuring accuracy and finality.

  • Maintain Infrastructure: Each BP must run high-performance servers and maintain uptime and reliability standards to keep the network running smoothly.

  • Participate in Governance: BPs vote on system contract changes, network upgrades, funding proposals, and other governance activities.

  • Support the Ecosystem: Many BPs contribute to the Vaulta ecosystem by developing tools, educating users, funding community initiatives, or maintaining public services like block explorers or APIs.

How Block Producers Are Elected

Vaulta token holders can vote for BPs by staking their Vaulta tokens and assigning them to up to 30 BP candidates. The weight of the vote depends on how many Vaulta tokens are staked.

  • The top 21 BPs with the most votes are selected as active producers.

  • Dozens of additional standby producers are ranked below the top 21 and may be rotated in if any active BPs become inactive or are voted out.

Voting is continuous—token holders can change their votes at any time, and rankings can shift dynamically.

DPoS Block Production Cycle

  • Block Time: Every 0.5 seconds

  • Rounds: 21 BPs produce 6 blocks each in a round of 126 blocks

  • Missed Blocks: If a BP misses their turn, they are skipped. Frequent misses may lead to loss of reputation or votes.

Block Producer Rewards

Vaulta BPs are rewarded with newly issued Vaulta tokens (inflation-based) based on:

  • Block production activity

  • Rank (vote share)

Rewards are distributed from the Vaulta savings account, governed by system contracts. The top 21 producers receive the majority of rewards, but standby BPs may also earn a portion.

Criteria for Being a Good Block Producer

  • High Uptime & Performance

  • Transparent Operations

  • Community Engagement

  • Infrastructure Investment

  • Code Contributions or Public Goods

  • Financial and Ethical Accountability

Some well-respected BPs also maintain public dashboards, reporting tools, or host Vaulta tools like:

  • APIs / Full Nodes

  • Snapshots

  • Wallet and explorer integrations

Takeaway

Block Producers are the backbone of the Vaulta blockchain. They secure the network, maintain infrastructure, and shape the future of Vaulta through technical and governance leadership.

As a token holder, you have the power to vote and influence which BPs represent the network. Choose producers who contribute meaningfully and align with your values.
