# Wallet and Account Setup

Unlike other blockchains, a Vaulta account is stored on the network and not in the wallet. Storing an account on the network requires RAM, which is a valuable resource on the network. This means that there is a cost for each account created; either paid by the user or by a sponsoring organization.&#x20;

Wallets on Vaulta hold your account's private keys and serve as authenticators to sign transactions. Once the account is created, you can use any number of wallets on Vaulta.&#x20;

The easiest way to create an account is through a trusted wallet. We have recommended some below.

### **✅ Considerations Before Selecting a Wallet**

Some things you may want to consider before selecting a wallet include:

* **Security:** Consider if your wallet encrypts your keys and if it is custodial or non-custodial.&#x20;
* **Recovery Options:** Know your account recovery options with each wallet.
* **Cost:** Due to the cost of RAM, wallets may charge users to create an account. Some wallets cover the cost of account creation.
* **DApp Compatibility:** Pick a wallet that connects with the decentralized applications you want to use on the network.
* **User Experience:** Some wallets have a very simple user interface while others may be created for more advanced users.
* **Accessibility:** Some, but not all, wallets are available on desktop and mobile devices. Think about how you usually connect and which wallet works best for those needs (mobile, browser extension, desktop, etc.)

### 1. Select a Wallet

The wallets listed in this section are a selection of some trusted wallets currently in the Vaulta Ecosystem.

[Anchor Wallet](https://www.greymass.com/anchor)

### Next Steps

Now that you have created your Vaulta wallet and account you can search for and display your account on any Vaulta compatible block explorer. We recommend using the [Vaulta Portal](https://unicove.com/), Unicove, to search for and display Vaulta accounts.

To fund your newly created account and use your tokens we suggest the following articles:

* [Buy/ Sell RAM](/vaulta-guides/user-guides/getting-started-on-vaulta/buy-sell-ram)

### Final Thoughts

Choosing the right wallet is important to your user journey and the wallet you select will depend on your individual needs. Take a moment to review your needs for account security, accessibility, compatibility and more prior to selecting your wallet.

# Get Vaulta Token

In order to engage with the Vaulta Network, you will need to fund your account with Vaulta tokens. These can be acquired on most major cryptocurrency exchanges. The process will vary slightly from one exchange to the next but this guide will outline the basic steps you need to keep in mind. If you need extra guidance, it is always worthwhile to check the exchange's support documentation.

### **✅ What You'll Need Before Getting Started**

Before you get started, you will need to do the following:

* [Set Up an Account](/vaulta-guides/user-guides/getting-started-on-vaulta/wallet-and-account-setup)

### 1. Choose an Exchange and Create an Account

Vaulta can be acquired on most major exchanges. Find a crypto exchange that is supported in your geographic location, then go through their process for setting up an account.&#x20;

<figure><img src="https://3212563502-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FMfYU5aUHtHKHuHC18ZSB%2Fuploads%2FFyKvY6jTsM3EP9e6xvcU%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=247184fd-2401-42b4-b37c-8713e1245864" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### 2. Purchase Vaulta

Log into your exchange account and find the area that allows you to "Purchase" or "Trade" tokens. The process here will vary from one exchange to the next and it is best to check with your exchange's support documentation if you are confused.

Follow the exchange's steps to acquire the Vaulta token. In some cases you may be able to populate your exchange account with fiat from your bank account, then use that balance to purchase Vaulta. In other situations, you may need to buy another token like Bitcoin, then trade that token for Vaulta.

### 3. Withdraw Your Vaulta to Your Vaulta Account

Once you hold a balance of Vaulta on your exchange account you'll be able to withdraw that Vaulta to your account on the Vaulta Network. In order to do this, find the "Withdraw" section of your preferred exchange and choose the option to withdraw Vaulta tokens on the Vaulta network.

Enter the name of the account you would like to withdraw your tokens to. This would be the 12 character name you gave to your account. Always double check your the account name to ensure you are sending your tokens to the proper location. **This cannot be reversed if you make a mistake.**

Enter the amount of tokens to send to your account and select "Withdraw". Go through any necessary verification processes to complete the withdrawal. Once complete, it may take a few minutes for the transaction to process and the tokens to end up in your account.

### Next Steps

Now that you have the Vaulta token you can start interacting with the Vaulta Ecosystem. In order to begin using Vaulta DApps you will likely need to acquire resources. You may also want to stake your tokens to earn rewards. Check out the guides below to get started using your Vaulta token.

* [Manage Resources (CPU/ NET)](/vaulta-guides/user-guides/getting-started-on-vaulta/manage-resources-cpu-net)
* [Buy/ Sell RAM](/vaulta-guides/user-guides/getting-started-on-vaulta/buy-sell-ram)
* [Staking](/vaulta-guides/user-guides/getting-started-on-vaulta/staking)

### Final Thoughts

When sending tokens somewhere for the first time, it's always good to do a trial with a small number of tokens. That way if you accidentally enter the wrong address or make some other error, you won't lose a large amount of funds. Once you see the small amount arrive in your account properly, you can go through the process again with the full amount.

It is also important to pay attention to the memo field when sending tokens to or from an exchange. This does not usually affect withdrawals from the exchange to the Vaulta network, but often when depositing tokens back into the exchange you may be required to enter a specific memo. This will ensure that your tokens end up in the proper account.

# Staking FAQ

<details>

<summary>How is the yield calculated?</summary>

Yield is calculated using a simple formula:

&#x20; annual reward / total staked

However, keep in mind that the rate will continuously change as more people stake or unstake their Vaulta token.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Where does the yield come from? </summary>

The Vaulta Network has a pre-allocated 250M EOS staking reward pool that gets released on a halving schedule every 4 years.

For instance, the first period will have 125,000,000 Vaulta spread across 4 years (31,250,000 Vaulta per year).

</details>

<details>

<summary>How long do I need to be staked for?</summary>

The staking period has a minimum of 21 days.&#x20;

You will need to manually unstake your Vaulta or it will be staked indefinitely.&#x20;

Once you trigger unstaking, you will then have to wait for 21 days before you can claim your rewards.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why was my matured position automatically sold? </summary>

After you unstake and wait the 21 days your position will be automatically be sold when you do any action (like staking or unstaking). You will still need to claim those rewards, but you will not continue to produce yield on the matured position.

Unstaking balances will still accrue rewards until they are claimed. However, any operation you do (staking more for instance) will automatically claim your fully unstaked positions.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I immediately un-stake and get my Vaulta token back?</summary>

You can immediately start the unstaking action, but you must wait 21 days for that to complete before you can reclaim your tokens.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Does my un-staking Vaulta still produce yield? </summary>

Yes, your Vaulta token will continue to produce yield until the end of the staking period, until it is claimed or auto-claimed by doing another action like staking or unstaking.&#x20;

</details>

<details>

<summary>I didn’t get the exact amount of Vaulta token I was expecting. Why? </summary>

When you stake the Vaulta token you get another token in return (REX). In order to make this interface as simple as possible all of the conversions to and from that token are handled for you. However, this sometimes means tiny differences in the amount of Vaulta token you unstake.

</details>

# Vaulta

<details>

<summary>What’s the new token symbol?</summary>

$A replaces $EOS as the native token.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How do I swap?</summary>

If your tokens are custodied by a centralized exchange, check with your exchange to confirm if they are handling the swap for you. To swap manually, the official [Vaulta Swap Portal](https://swap.vaulta.com/) is the easiest and safest method. Simply connect your wallet and follow the guided process to exchange $EOS for $A.

Advanced users can also perform a direct on-chain swap by sending $EOS to the core.vaulta account. You’ll receive an equal amount of $A in return.&#x20;

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do I need to swap right away?</summary>

There is no required deadline, but we recommend swapping early to ensure full access to Vaulta features across wallets, apps, and exchanges.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Is the swap bi-directional?</summary>

Yes. The swap will be bi-directional for the first four months. During that period, $EOS and $A can be exchanged 1:1 in either direction using the[ ](https://swap.vaulta.com/)[Vaulta Swap Portal](https://swap.vaulta.com/). After four months, the portal will support one-way swaps from $EOS to $A only.&#x20;

</details>

<details>

<summary>What happens if I don’t swap?</summary>

Your EOS will remain on-chain, but utility and liquidity will increasingly shift to $A as platforms adopt the new token. While there is no deadline to complete the swap, we recommend doing so early to ensure uninterrupted access across apps, wallets, and exchanges. You will not lose access to your funds, and swapping will remain available beyond the initial transition period.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>What actions are required for on-chain token holders?</strong></summary>

On-chain token holders will have access to a dedicated swap portal to exchange their EOS tokens for Vaulta’s new native token. Initially, swaps will be bi-directional but will become one-way after a 4-month grace period, subject to future updates and confirmation.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Will centralized exchanges handle the swap?</summary>

Many will. Check with your provider for confirmation.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What if my tokens are currently staked?</summary>

Any $EOS tokens that are currently staked will remain staked and continue earning yield. $A tokens that are staked will add to your total stake. When a user unstakes via the core.vaulta contract, all tokens will unstake as $A tokens.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Any fees?</summary>

No. The swap is 1:1, with no fees or slippage.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Does the Vaulta token introduce any new tokenomics?</summary>

No. The $A token has the same total supply, allocation, and vesting schedules as EOS. Only the ticker and name are changing.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Is Vaulta a new blockchain?</summary>

No. It’s the same core Antelope technology, refreshed with a new name and mission.

Vaulta operates using the same mainnet that was previously called the EOS Network. All state history remains intact. The key difference is that the $A token will now be the native resource and governance token with all of the properties that the EOS token previously had.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What happens to my altcoins that I am holding?</summary>

Altcoins will not be impacted at all by the Vaulta rebrand and token swap. All of the existing smart contracts, including token contracts, that were previously deployed onto the EOS mainnet will still exist on Vaulta because it is not a new mainnet or network. Therefore, all balances will remain the same as before with no end user actions required.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do developers need to update anything?</summary>

Most contracts will run without change. Developers should update token identifiers to ensure smooth operation with $A.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Are there security risks?</summary>

As with any token transition, scams may emerge. Use only official links and platforms. When in doubt, use the[ ](https://swap.vaulta.com/)[Vaulta Swap Portal](https://swap.vaulta.com/).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Have the new smart contracts been audited?</summary>

Yes, the contracts have passed extensive security audits from both[ ](https://skynet.certik.com/projects/eos-network)[Certik](https://skynet.certik.com/projects/eos-network) and[ ](https://www.sentnl.io/audits/eos-foundation-0)[Sentnl](https://www.sentnl.io/audits/eos-foundation-0).

# Accessing ERC-20 EOS

EOS tokens (ERC-20) in your Ethereum wallet (Metamask, MEW, Trezor/Ledger, etc.) are frozen forever. But if you have them, you are entitled to receive the same number of EOS tokens on the EOS blockchain.

<figure><img src="https://3212563502-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FMfYU5aUHtHKHuHC18ZSB%2Fuploads%2Facd6jVCS1tnSgeLVYnR2%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=a5db6b4e-10f1-427f-8de7-71f6d4c1e14b" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="https://3212563502-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FMfYU5aUHtHKHuHC18ZSB%2Fuploads%2FV6IxNoN4aQUniO9zwuzn%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=9af32ba0-c8b0-41fb-9117-6b988ff42d0d" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## 1. Check if you are still unregistered or if you did register your EOS Account <a href="#h_6623af2016" id="h_6623af2016"></a>

First step is to go to [this site](https://eosauthority.com/unregistered?network=eos), scroll down a little bit and then enter your Ethereum address (public key) and click Submit

<figure><img src="https://3212563502-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FMfYU5aUHtHKHuHC18ZSB%2Fuploads%2F7uyfrHkTmBDYjl2oDVZW%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=80054527-ccd2-4af5-a6dd-a904c31a7e22" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If you did not register, you could choose an EOS Account Name and create a new keypair for your EOS Account.

Follow this "older" video tutorial on how to do this.

How to register your ERC-20 EOS tokens (unregistered tokens) on the EOS mainnet and get your EOS tokens on the EOS blockchain

With [Metamask](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az9fofwDm54):

With an [alternative method](https://youtu.be/az9fofwDm54?t=719) (hardware wallet like Ledger/Trezor):

*Note: The alternative method is more complicated. If you have a problem with the alternative method, you can* [*follow the guide here*](https://www.ledger.com/academy/security/the-safest-way-to-use-metamask) *on connecting your hardware wallet to Metamask to use the simple method with Metamask.*

## 2. If your Account is not on the unregistered list, your EOS Account exists already, and you can use the Fallback or the Lostkey method <a href="#h_d5ecc6d006" id="h_d5ecc6d006"></a>

# Staking

**Staking** is how you earn rewards for helping secure the Vaulta blockchain.

When you **stake your Vaulta tokens**, you temporarily lock them up to support the network’s operations — like validating transactions and keeping the system running smoothly.

In return, you earn **staking rewards**, all while still owning your tokens.

## Why Stake Your Vaulta Tokens?

| Benefit | What It Means for You |
| ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Earn Rewards** | Get paid in Vaulta tokens just for holding and staking them. |
| **Support the Network** | Help the blockchain stay secure and decentralized. |
| **No Permanent Lockup** | Your tokens are securely locked for a short period (21 days). |

## How Long Are Tokens Locked?

* **Staking Lockup**: 21 days
* During this time, your tokens cannot be transferred — but they are still 100% yours.&#x20;
* You can **unstake anytime**, but the countdown starts when you initiate it.
* You continue to earn rewards while your tokens are unstaking.

## How Much Can I Earn?

Vaulta staking rewards vary over time based on network participation. The earlier you stake, the higher the potential rewards.

<figure><img src="https://3212563502-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FMfYU5aUHtHKHuHC18ZSB%2Fuploads%2FRuFjdjFgpLSczapyy0Em%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=c29d954e-5022-4181-af81-e56ff323a0ab" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You’ll be able to track your rewards on the [Vaulta Portal Staking page](https://unicove.com/staking).

## Is Staking Safe?

Yes — staking on Vaulta is **non-custodial**, which means:

* Your tokens stay in your control
* You never hand them over to a third party
* You can unstake at any time

That said, always use trusted wallets and double-check the platforms you stake with.

## Takeaway

Staking is a simple and secure way to earn returns on your Vaulta token and help secure the Vaulta blockchain.&#x20;

# exSat Network

# Network Resources

In order to begin engaging with [Vaulta Native](/vaulta-guides), it helps to have an understanding of how transactions are powered on the network. Vaulta utilizes a resource-based model, which is more efficient and cost effective than gas fees used by other networks.&#x20;

## **CPU (Processing Power)**

CPU is used when your account runs a transaction (like sending tokens or using an app). CPU is rented alongside NET using the PowerUp model.

## **NET (Network Bandwidth)**

NET is used to send data across the network when you interact with apps or other users. NET is rented alongside CPU using the PowerUp model.&#x20;

## **RAM (Storage, Decentralized State Data)**

RAM is used to store persistent blockchain data including account information and smart contract data. Unlike CPU and NET, RAM is not rented but bought and sold on a free market.

## How do I get more Resources?&#x20;

The following guides will walk you through managing resources in the Vaulta portal:

* [Managing Resources (CPU/ NET)](/vaulta-guides/user-guides/getting-started-on-vaulta/manage-resources-cpu-net)
* [Buy/ Sell RAM](/vaulta-guides/user-guides/getting-started-on-vaulta/buy-sell-ram)

## Benefits of a Resource-Based Model

Unlike Ethereum where every transaction has a gas fee, Vaulta uses a **resource-based model** — which keeps things **cheaper and more flexible**.

Our resource-based model offers:

💸No surprise fees\
🚫 No bidding wars to get your transaction confirmed\
🌱 A solution that is more efficient for developers and users

## Takeaway

Vaulta's resource model is designed to maximize efficiency, scalability, and user control.&#x20;

## How WRAM Works

WRAM operates through a smart contract (`eosio.wram`) on the EOS Native chain. Users can **wrap** and **unwrap** RAM as follows:

* **Wrap**: Convert system RAM bytes into WRAM tokens, which are credited to your account.
* **Unwrap**: Convert WRAM tokens back into system RAM bytes, retiring the WRAM tokens.

This process is facilitated by the EOS system contract v3.3.0 upgrade, which introduced enhanced RAM management capabilities.

## Fees and Transactions

* **Wrapping Fees**: A nominal 0.5% fee is applied when using `buyram` and `buyrambytes` actions to issue WRAM tokens.
* **Transfers**: No fees are applied when using the `ramtransfer` action for WRAM issuance, promoting efficient RAM management.

## WRAM Specifications

# Vaulta Native Accounts

Accounts serve as the primary means of identifying participants and managing resources. Unlike traditional blockchain addresses, Vaulta accounts are human-readable names that facilitate user interactions and smart contract deployments. This document provides an in-depth overview of Vaulta accounts, their structure, creation process, and associated permissions.

Smart Contracts are also deployed on top of accounts, and the account owner can control the smart contract unless control is relinquished.

## Account Structure

A Vaulta account is a unique identifier stored on the blockchain, representing an individual or a group, depending on its permission configuration. Each account is associated with a set of permissions that define its authority within the network. These permissions control the actions an account can perform and are crucial for transaction authorization.&#x20;

| Component              | Description                                                                                                                                                                                                  |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Account Name** | A unique, human-readable identifier (up to 12 characters) used to receive EOS-related tokens and interact with the Vaulta network. |
| **Owner Public Key** | The public part of the owner key pair. This key is stored on the blockchain and is used to verify ownership of the account. |
| **Owner Private Key** | The private part of the owner key pair. This key grants full control over the account, including the ability to change both owner and active keys. It should be stored securely offline (cold storage). |
| **Active Public Key** | The public part of the active key pair. This key is stored on the blockchain and is used to verify transactions that require active permission. |
| **Active Private Key** | The private part of the active key pair. This key is used for day-to-day operations like transferring funds and voting. It should be stored securely but is used more frequently than the owner private key. |

## Account Names

EOS account names are human-readable and must adhere to specific conventions:

* Length: Up to 12 characters.
* Characters: Lowercase letters (a-z), digits (1-5), and periods (.).
* Naming Rules:
  * Names cannot start or end with a period.
  * The first letter of a 12 characters account name must start with an alphabet.\
    (✅ samplename12 ❌ 12samplename)
  * Periods denote ownership hierarchies, allowing for the creation of nested accounts (e.g., <mark style="color:green;">sub.account</mark>).

These conventions ensure efficient and organized account management within the EOSIO ecosystem.&#x20;

## Smart Contracts and Accounts

In the Vaulta ecosystem, smart contracts are deployed to and executed by accounts. Each account can host a single smart contract, which can be updated or modified by the account owner, provided the appropriate permissions are in place. This design facilitates decentralized application development and management, with accounts serving as both user identities and application hosts.&#x20;

## Takeaway

Vaulta accounts are foundational to the Vaulta blockchain, providing a flexible and secure framework for identity management, resource allocation, and permission control. Understanding the structure and functionality of Vaulta accounts is essential for participants aiming to interact effectively with the network, whether for personal transactions, application development, or smart contract deployment.

# Account Permissions

Every [Vaulta account](/vaulta-guides/accounts/vaulta-native-accounts) is secured by a powerful permission system that offers fine-grained control over who can perform what actions. Vaulta permissions go far beyond a simple private/public key pair—they allow for flexible setups like multi-signature wallets, delegated authority, and smart contract automation.

Understanding Vaulta permissions is essential for account security, smart contract interaction, and managing dApps.

**Maintaining the confidentiality of private keys is paramount. Loss or compromise of a private key can result in unauthorized access and potential loss of assets.**&#x20;

***

## Default Permissions

Each Vaulta account features a hierarchical permission system that enhances security and flexibility. Permissions are structured hierarchically:

* Parent Permissions: Higher-level permissions that can override or control subordinate permissions.
* Child Permissions: Subordinate permissions that inherit certain characteristics from their parents but can be tailored for specific actions or contracts.

This structure allows for detailed and secure management of account actions and authorizations.&#x20;

* <mark style="color:green;">**owner**</mark> – parent permission
  * Master key; full control
  * Highest level of authority
  * Can change any permission on the account
  * Can recover access if active key is lost
  * Should be stored offline and used only when absolutely necessary
* <mark style="color:green;">**active**</mark> – subordinate permission&#x20;
  * Used for regular account actions including: sending tokens, voting for block producers, interacting with dApps and smart contracts
  * Used for daily operations

***

## Custom Permissions

Account owners can create custom permissions to further delegate authority for specific actions or smart contracts. This granularity allows for complex permission structures, enabling scenarios like multi-signature accounts or delegated account management. Vaulta allows you to create custom permission levels tied to specific smart contract actions.

Examples:

* A voteonly permission that allows voting but not transfers
* A bot permission that lets a contract perform specific actions on your behalf

These permissions can be:

* Assigned to different keys
* Protected by multi-signature rules
* Limited to certain actions/contracts only

## Takeaway

Vaulta's flexible permission system gives you complete control over your on-chain identity and assets.

| Permission | Purpose                       | Best Practice                      |
| ---------- | ----------------------------- | ---------------------------------- |
| owner | Master access | Keep offline, only for emergencies |
| active | Daily transactions | Use with secure wallet |
| Custom     | Fine-grained contract control | Use for dApps & automation         |

# Smart Contract Account

A **smart contract account** is a special kind of account on the Vaulta blockchain that runs **code**, not just holds tokens.

While your personal Vaulta account is used to send, receive, and stake tokens, a smart contract account can **automate actions**, **manage assets**, or **power an entire app** — all without needing a person to manually approve every action.

## The differences between a user account and smart contract account

| Feature | User Account | Smart Contract Account |
| ------------------ | ----------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Purpose** | For individuals to hold and manage tokens | For apps, services, or protocols to run automated actions |
| **Controlled By** | A person with private keys | Code (smart contract logic) |
| **Actions** | Sending tokens, staking, voting | Runs app functions, swapping tokens, issuing NFTs, holding logic |
| **Code Attached?** | No | Yes; executes smart contract functions |

## Who Creates Smart Contract Accounts?

Developers or projects deploy smart contracts to a Vaulta account when they want to:

* Launch a decentralized application (dApp)
* Automate certain blockchain functions
* Build tools that others can interact with directly on-chain

These accounts are typically **registered with a custom name** (like `vtokenvault`) and appear on block explorers just like any other account.

## Are Smart Contract Accounts Secure?

Smart contracts are secure only as long as the **code inside the contract is secure**. That’s why:

* Developers test and audit their contracts before launching
* Vaulta users should only interact with trusted, verified apps
* Transactions on smart contract accounts are **transparent** and viewable by anyone

Unlike regular accounts, smart contract accounts don’t need private keys — they respond to **coded instructions** and external triggers.

## How Do I Interact with a Smart Contract Account?

Most users interact with smart contract accounts through **dApps or wallets** — you don't need to send a command manually.

For example:

* When you swap tokens in a Vaulta dApp, you’re sending a transaction to a smart contract account that handles the trade.
* When you mint an NFT, a smart contract account creates and stores that digital asset.

## Takeaway

A smart contract account is like an app that lives on the blockchain. It holds rules, follows instructions, and runs without needing a person to push buttons. You use them every time you use a dApp — even if you don’t see them.

# Block Producers

Block Producers (BPs) are the core infrastructure providers of the Vaulta blockchain. They are responsible for validating transactions, producing blocks, maintaining network performance, and participating in on-chain governance.

Vaulta uses a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism, which means block production and governance are delegated to elected entities—known as Block Producers—by Vaulta token holders.

## Key Responsibilities of Block Producers

* **Produce Blocks**:\
  BPs take turns generating blocks every 0.5 seconds in a round-robin fashion. There are 21 active BPs at any given time.
* **Validate Transactions**:\
  BPs confirm and record transactions into the blockchain, ensuring accuracy and finality.
* **Maintain Infrastructure**:\
  Each BP must run high-performance servers and maintain uptime and reliability standards to keep the network running smoothly.
* **Participate in Governance**:\
  BPs vote on system contract changes, network upgrades, funding proposals, and other governance activities.
* **Support the Ecosystem**:\
  Many BPs contribute to the Vaulta ecosystem by developing tools, educating users, funding community initiatives, or maintaining public services like block explorers or APIs.<br>

## How Block Producers Are Elected

Vaulta token holders can vote for BPs by staking their Vaulta tokens and assigning them to up to 30 BP candidates. The weight of the vote depends on how many Vaulta tokens are staked.

* The top 21 BPs with the most votes are selected as active producers.
* Dozens of additional standby producers are ranked below the top 21 and may be rotated in if any active BPs become inactive or are voted out.

Voting is continuous—token holders can change their votes at any time, and rankings can shift dynamically.

## DPoS Block Production Cycle

* Block Time: Every 0.5 seconds
* Rounds: 21 BPs produce 6 blocks each in a round of 126 blocks
* Missed Blocks: If a BP misses their turn, they are skipped. Frequent misses may lead to loss of reputation or votes.

## Block Producer Rewards

Vaulta BPs are rewarded with newly issued Vaulta tokens (inflation-based) based on:

* Block production activity
* Rank (vote share)

Rewards are distributed from the Vaulta savings account, governed by system contracts. The top 21 producers receive the majority of rewards, but standby BPs may also earn a portion.

## Criteria for Being a Good Block Producer

* High Uptime & Performance
* Transparent Operations
* Community Engagement
* Infrastructure Investment
* Code Contributions or Public Goods
* Financial and Ethical Accountability

Some well-respected BPs also maintain public dashboards, reporting tools, or host Vaulta tools like:

* APIs / Full Nodes
* Snapshots
* Wallet and explorer integrations

## Takeaway

Block Producers are the backbone of the Vaulta blockchain. They secure the network, maintain infrastructure, and shape the future of Vaulta through technical and governance leadership.

As a token holder, you have the power to vote and influence which BPs represent the network. Choose producers who contribute meaningfully and align with your values.

# DPoS Consensus

Vaulta uses a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism, a system designed for high throughput, fast finality, and efficient governance. Unlike traditional Proof-of-Work (PoW) or even regular Proof-of-Stake (PoS), DPoS emphasizes delegated voting and block producer elections to validate transactions and maintain network integrity. Token holders have governance power relative to their stake in the system.

DPoS allows the Vaulta blockchain to achieve block times of 0.5 seconds, near-instant finality, and horizontal scalability, making it suitable for high-performance decentralized applications.

## How Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) Works

#### 1. Token Holders Elect Block Producers

In Vaulta, every account holding Vaulta tokens can vote for up to 30 Block Producer (BP) candidates. The votes are weighted based on the number of tokens staked by the voter. Token holders are incentivized to vote for trustworthy and performant BPs, as these entities validate transactions and govern the network.

The top 21 Block Producers by vote weight become active and are responsible for block production. Dozens of standby BPs remain in line and may be rotated into the top 21 based on performance or changes in vote weight.

#### 2. Block Production

* The Vaulta blockchain produces blocks in rounds of 126 blocks.
* Each round is handled by the 21 active Block Producers, each of whom is assigned to produce 6 consecutive blocks.
* Blocks are produced every 0.5 seconds.
* If a BP misses its scheduled turn, it is skipped, and the round continues. Repeated missed blocks can lead to removal or demotion.

#### 3. Finality and Irreversibility

Vaulta uses a Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) layer atop DPoS to achieve fast finality:

* A block is considered irreversible once it has received confirmation from two-thirds plus one (15 out of 21) active Block Producers.
* This system provides probabilistic finality within seconds, reducing the risk of chain reorganization (forks).

## Key Features of Vaulta DPoS

### Speed

* 0.5-second block times
* Transaction finality typically achieved within \~1–2 seconds

### Governance-Enabled

* On-chain voting for Block Producers
* Block Producers can propose and execute system-level upgrades (via multisig)

### Security

* Fault tolerance is achieved through decentralization of voting and block production
* Malicious or inactive producers can be voted out in real time
* Security is backed by the stake of voters and BPs’ reputations

### Flexibility

* Governance and consensus upgrades can be implemented with community consent
* Permission systems allow for multi-signature and hierarchical access controls

## Differences from Traditional PoS and PoW

| Feature         | Vaulta DPoS                | Traditional PoS                     | Proof-of-Work                  |
| --------------- | -------------------------- | ----------------------------------- | ------------------------------ |

# Staying Safe

## How to stay safe before sending tokens or using smart contracts

Vaulta is a powerful blockchain built for high-speed, scalable applications. It’s permissionless and irreversible—which means <mark style="color:purple;">**once you send tokens or sign a transaction, you can’t undo it.**</mark>

Bad actors can deploy malicious smart contracts or impersonate known projects. Your best defense? Know what you’re interacting with.

* Vaulta transactions are instant and irreversible
* Never trust random token airdrops in your wallet
* Always verify before you sign

## Identifying Scams

Scams, hacks, and failed projects are common, so due diligence is your first line of defense before sending tokens, interacting with smart contracts, or investing in a project. A list of common scams can be seen in the table below.

| Risk Type            | Description                                           |
| -------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| Fake Smart Contracts | Scam dApps that mimic trusted projects |
| Phishing Links | Wallet-draining links in chats or emails |
| Airdrop Scams | Fake token drops asking for permissions |
| Malicious dApps | dApps requesting excessive authority |
| Spoofed Accounts | Accounts using lookalike names (e.g. eos.io vs eosio) |

## Due Diligence Before Engaging with a New Project

Before engaging with a crypto project check the following:

### Project Fundamentals

* Official website & whitepaper&#x20;
* Tokenomics - Review token supply, distribution, and vesting.
* Roadmap - Look for clear, achievable goals.
* Consensus Mechanism - Understand how blocks are produced (PoW, PoS, DPoS, etc.).
* Governance model - Is it transparent and community-driven?

### **Team & Background**

* Research founders & core team on LinkedIn and past projects.
* Speak to the team if possible—look for professionalism and clarity.
* Avoid anonymous or unverifiable teams unless the project is open-source with active contributions.

### Audit & Security

* Check if the smart contracts are audited by reputable firms.
* Read audit reports when available.
* Use trusted block explorers to verify contract addresses.

### **Business Model & ICO Health**

* Understand how the project plans to make money.
* Avoid ICOs with vague terms or long-running fundraisers.
* Be cautious of unrealistic claims or sudden token pumps.

### Reputation & KYC

* Look for KYC-verified platforms (e.g.,[ eosrespect.io](https://eosrespect.io/)).
* Check for community feedback on platforms like Discord, Reddit, X (Twitter), and Telegram.

## Due Diligence Before Connecting to a Smart Contract

Before connecting to a smart contract always do the following:&#x20;

### **Verify the Contract or Account You’re Interacting With**

Why it matters:\
Scammers often create fake contracts or spoof real account names (e.g., eos1o.token instead of eosio.token).

How to do it:

* Use a trusted block explorer like[ Unicove](https://unicove.com/)
* Check information like account creation date, account history
* Double-check contract names against the official project site or documentation

### **Never Approve Permissions You Don’t Understand**

Why it matters:\
Giving a dApp access to your active or owner permission—or blindly signing multi-step transactions—can result in total wallet drain.

How to do it:

* Use trusted wallets like Anchor
* Review every transaction prompt carefully
* When in doubt, don't sign it. Never give a dApp permission to transfer your tokens unless you 100% trust it.

### Avoid Clicking Unknown Links or Tokens in Your Wallet

Why it matters:\
Fake airdrops and phishing links are two of the most common entry points for scams. Interacting with a malicious token or site can expose your keys or trigger an exploit.

How to do it:

* Don’t click on links from DMs or random Telegram/X replies
* Don’t touch random tokens that show up in your wallet
* Always go directly to a project’s verified website or community channel<br>

# Common Scams to Avoid

## Never Send Funds Based on Private Messages or Promotions

* Scammers impersonate exchanges like Binance, Bybit, and OKX or pose as Vaulta services.
* They lure users with promises of high returns, arbitrage, or deposit "bonuses".
* If someone offers you "free money" for sending tokens, it's a scam.

## Exchange Nicknames Are NOT Vaulta Addresses

* Scammers exploit confusion by asking users to send Vaulta to an account named like their exchange "nickname".
* Vaulta accounts are independent from exchange usernames — sending funds to a similar-looking account will send tokens directly to the scammer.

## Watch for ‘Small Test Refund’ Tricks

* Scammers build trust by returning a small amount (e.g., 5 $A + 3%) to bait you into sending a larger sum.
* This "proof" is a setup. Once you send a bigger amount, they disappear with your funds.

## Avoid Fake Testnets, Airdrops, or Network “Simulations”

* Scammers ask you to send tokens to join “testnets” or fake airdrops.
* They’ll claim your amount wasn’t enough, or a transaction is “stuck,” and ask for more.
* This is a loop designed to extract as much as possible before you realize it’s a scam.

## Scammers Impersonate Official Vaulta Services

* Fake websites like vaulta-network.io are not official.

#### If You’re Asked to Send More to ‘Release’ Funds, Stop Immediately

* This is a classic scam tactic. You cannot unlock stuck funds by sending more tokens.

## If You Get Scammed

* Do not send more.
* Collect the scammer’s account name and transaction ID.
* Report it to law enforcement and any exchange involved.
* If you act fast and funds go to an exchange, they may help freeze the funds (with a police report).

# Account Security Best Practices

## Use Trusted Wallets

* Use wallets like Anchor, TokenPocket or Vaulta Wallet
* Always review transaction permissions before approving

## Use Custom Permissions for dApps

* Avoid giving dApps your full active permission
* Use custom named permissions tied only to specific contracts and actions
* This limits the damage if a contract is compromised

## Use Multi-Signature (Multisig) for High-Value Accounts

* For organizations or treasuries, require 2 or more keys to approve actions
* Use the eosio.msig contract for multi-sig governance

## Audit Contract Authorizations

* Use block explorers like [Unicove](https://unicove.com) to view:
  * Which contracts have eosio.code permission
  * Which keys or contracts can act on your behalf

## Keep owner Key Offline

* Generate and store your owner key cold (offline)—preferably on a hardware wallet or air-gapped device
* Only use it to:
  * Rotate keys
  * Recover access if your active key is compromised
